NSW Boat Licence Practical

Experience:
None required. Minimum age 12.
Duration: Two hours. Timings can vary depending on weather and other constraints on the day.
Requirements:
Advise of any health condition, eyesight, hearing, learning disability or other disability which may compromise training.
Delivery: Trainer-led on-water session.
Approvals: Meets NSW Roads and Maritime Boat Licence practical experience requirements.
Cost: $160.00

Description

Taking around two hours this trainer-led boat licence practical session is an ideal option for anyone who has already completed the theory learning component of the training and only needs to meet the practical experience requirements for gaining the licence.This Sydney-based boat licence on-water practical has been developed by an experienced senior Master. You will benefit by learning correct boat boating and seamanship skills. Simply, present the documentation we give you along with your proof of identity and evidence you have successfully completed the knowledge test at your nearest  NSW Roads and Maritime Service Centre and you will be ready to head out!

      On arrival at the boat ramp you will be met the Trainer who will take you through a safety brief, line handling and a pre-start checklist prior heading out the water. Underway you will apply your theory knowledge practically on the water.The session focuses on ensuring participants learn correct boat handling practices essential to boating safety and how to comply with State and International Rules.

      The training covers:

      • Boat handling in close quarters;
      • High and low speed manoeuvres;
      • Docking and anchoring;
      • Person overboard emergency drill;
      • Boat ramp etiquette - launch/retrieval practices;
      • and collision regulations.

      On completion of the session you will be issued documentation which provides you with the evidence that you have met the practical experience requirements for obtaining the licence.

      What to bring

      • Pen.
      • 1 form of full proof of identity (POI) such as a current drivers licence.  Or, one form of primary ID, such as a Passport or a Birth Certificate and one form of Secondary ID such as a Medicare Card, Pensioners Concession Card, current Student ID, or a current Credit Card. The required Proof of Identity information is available on the NSW Roads and Maritime website.
        NOTE:
        Young adult licence applicants (persons between 12 years and under 16 years of age) are required to provide one form of primary ID and one form of secondary ID.
      • Appropriate apparel for the practical boat session - Hat, water, sunscreen, runners, boat shoes, no thongs, jacket suitable for weather conditions of the day.
      • Packed lunch/water.(optional)

      Trainer Authority - Safety of students and training vessels is a priority. Decisions made by the Trainer are final in respect of vessel safety, well being of the passengers/crew and progress of the session. Decisions regarding continuance of practical training in adverse weather conditions or due to other constraints which may arise will be made by the trainer on the day.
